On Wednesday, March 11th, Parliament approved the Council of Europe’s Framework Convention on AI, tackling risks AI poses to fundamental democratic values at international level.
Law enforcement access to data will be a focus for Cyprus in its role chairing EU member states' work on legislative files in the first half of this year, with work planned on data retention, lawful interception, encryption and artificial intelligence, according to a document sent to government delegations dated Jan. 23. Access to data for law enforcement already became a legislative priority for EU governments last year.
The EU's new procedural rules for streamlining and speeding up cross-border enforcement of the bloc's General Data Protection Regulation will apply from April 2, 2027, the legislative text published on Friday shows. The rules introduce deadlines for completing investigations and create an early resolution mechanism to help resolve complaints more swiftly.
