Insolvencies and Incorporations in Portugal December 2018

 

Synthesis

·         The total number of insolvencies procedures registered in 2018 diminished by 6,3% over the same period in 2017. 

·         Incorporations have increased, from 40.465 in 2017 to 45.386 companies in 2018. Thus, it was registered a 12,2% increase in the number of new companies.

  

Insolvencies

2018 registered a decrease in insolvencies, with 5.888 insolvent companies, less 396 companies when comparing over the same period in 2017 (-6,3%).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In 2018 the declared insolvencies (required) increased by 19 (+ 1,3%), Insolvency declarations in which the company proposes itself for insolvency registered less 1 company (-0,1%), just as the insolvencies and the closed insolvency processes where a recovery plan is established diminished by 35 (- 31,3%) when in comparison with those from 2017.

 

Concerning insolvency declarations, it was registered 2.933, less 379 than in 2017. This results in a decrease of the global amount of insolvencies (less 396 when comparing to 2017).

 

 

Lisboa and Porto remain as the districts presenting the highest insolvency number, 1.555 and 1.400 respectively. Facing 2017, it’s noticed a 7,6% decrease in Lisboa and a 5,3% increase in Porto.  

 

The districts that present a more pronounced decreased in Insolvencies are: Portalegre (- 27,8%); Setúbal (- 25,4%); Madeira (-25,7%); Évora (- 24,2%); Viseu (- 24%) and Leiria (- 23,8%).

 

 The districts that reveal a more severe increase in Insolvencies are: Angra do Heroísmo (+ 90%); Horta (+ 60%); Castelo Branco (+ 20%).

 

 

In 2018, the sectors that present a decrease in insolvencies are: Telecommunications (- 44,4%); Retail Sales (-  17,4%); Hotels and Restaurants (-13,9%); Transports (- 9,1%); Construction & Public Works (-8,7%); and Sale of Motor Vehicles (-8,3%).

 

The sectors that present a positive and more significant variation are: Extractive Industry (+ 42,9%); Electricity, Gas, Water (+4,5%); Whole Sale (+ 4,3%).

 

 

Incorporations

 

 Incorporations, in 2018, have reached a cumulative total of 45.386, an additional 4.921 companies on year-on-year terms (+ 12,2%).

 

 

 

The most significant number of incorporations is registered in Lisboa with 15.829 companies (+ 15,6%), Porto also presents a high value of incorporations, 8.179 companies (+ 15,1%), Setúbal with 3.391 companies (+ 23,4%), Braga with 3.274 companies (+ 10,5%), Faro with 2.492 companies (+ 10,5%), Aveiro with 2.008 companies (+ 4,1%), Leiria with 1.615 companies (+ 9%), Coimbra com 1.202 companies (+ 6,9%), Santarém with 1.189 companies (+10,8%) and Madeira com 1.075 companies (+ 5,9%).

 

The most significant decreases, considering the variations, occurred in the following districts: Horta (- 16,2%), Bragança (-10,8%); Portalegre (- 5,8%); Beja (- 3,9%).

 

 

 

In 2018, the sectors that present a wider variation are: Transports (+ 71,9%); Mining Industry (+42,9%); Electricity, Gas, Water (+ 21,7%); Construction and Public Works (+ 21,4%) and Trade of Motor Vehicles (+ 14,9%).

 

 

 

The most significant decrease in 2018 was registered in: Agriculture Hunting and Fishing (- 16,1%).
